Today, Thursday 18th July children from Owl, Otters. Badgers and Kingfishers performed in an amazing end of term concert to celebrate all the musicians hard work over the year. They had an audience of almost 20 appreciative parents, grandparents and friends supporting them as well as the whole school. They bravely performed a range of pieces on drums, guitar, ukulele, recorder, violin and key board. We listened to a wide range of pieces from rock to pop to classical pieces. The children were supported by their music teachers, Dawn, Heather and Andrew from My Smart Music.
Two of our school councillors had a marvellous time at Sunbeams Music Therapy Centre near Penrith this week. Mrs Newman accompanied the children to the Centre where they explored the outside musical garden, ate lunch together with councillors from four other local schools, and took part in a School Council of North Eden (SCoNE) meeting. Annie Mawson, the founder of the charity, welcomed the children and, after their meeting, the children enjoyed a performance from a violin and piano duo in the wonderful wooden performance hall with and played in the sensory room. A Year 6 child who attended said it had been the best day of his school life!
In the Autumn Term, Mrs Newman started a choir for children in Owls, Otters and Badgers. We learnt a lovely collection of Christmas songs and performed in a Christmas concert at St. Andrews Church on Monday 10th December. This concert involved the choir singing with other school choirs but we will also performed a traditional carol, Rocking, to a church full of appreciative families.
