Music
At Langwathby C of E Primary School will use the Charanga Musical School Scheme to provide teachers with week-by-week lessons for each year group from Reception to Year 6. This scheme is ideal for specialist and non-specialist teachers and provides lesson plans, assessment, clear progression, and engaging and exciting whiteboard resources for every lesson.
We want our Music curriculum to be inspiring and ambitious and so in Sept 2022 we moved from the original scheme to the English Model Music Curriculum (MMC). An overview can be seen below.
In recognition of the more challenging content and expectation within this new curriculum some of our pupils are working outside of their chronological age, this is allowing our learners to build on firm foundations and to avoid gaps in their skills and knowledge (particularly in regard to their understanding and recall of different keys and music notation). We anticipate all learners working with their year groups by 24-25.
For further detail please read the document below which details the knowledge, skills and learning progression for the Primary phase.
Children from our Owl, Otters. Badgers and Kingfishers Classes recently performed in an amazing end of term concert to celebrate all the musicians hard work over the year. They had an audience of almost 20 appreciative parents, grandparents and friends supporting them as well as the whole school. They bravely performed a range of pieces on drums, guitar, ukulele, recorder, violin and key board. We listened to a wide range of pieces from rock to pop to classical pieces. The children were supported by their music teachers, Dawn, Heather and Andrew from My Smart Music.
