Attendance
It is very important that children attend school regularly. The link between school attendance and attainment in school is clear. The more a pupil is in school the more they increase their opportunity to fulfil their potential.
We will always try to work closely in partnership with our families to support their child's learning and to overcome any barriers that prevent good attendance.
We are required to keep and monitor records of attendance, absence and lateness and this data is submitted to the Local Authority. If your child can not attend school please telephone or e-mail the school office before 8:50am on each day of their absence.
In particular, we need to stress how important it is that you don't take holidays in term time as it disrupts your child's learning. Schools can only agree a leave of absence in term time for exceptional circumstances. All requests must be made in advance by contacting the school.
Schools will consider each application individually taking into account the specific facts, circumstances and relevant background context to the request.
If the leave of absence is granted it is for the school to determine the length of time the pupil can be absent from school. Schools cannot agree a leave of absence retrospectively.
Generally, the DfE does not consider a need or desire for a holiday or other absence for the purpose of leisure and recreation to be an exceptional circumstance. Therefore, any leave taken for the purpose of a holiday is unlikely to be regarded as an exceptional circumstance.
