Art and DT
Art, Design and Creativity are highly valued within the Langwathby School setting. The children are encouraged to work in a vast range of mediums on a small and large scale. They are allowed to experiment with both 2-D and 3-D to create their masterpieces taking inspiration from famous artists.
We always strive to give the children excellent role models through bringing in a range of experts. They regularly participate in both whole school and individual projects using things like clay, recycled materials and wire.
Our topic based curriculum allows for artwork and D&T projects to inspire their thinking and let them become problem solvers by meeting specific criteria.
We are currently working on our use of Sketch Books throughout school to help children explore their creativity, develop ideas and learn through experimentation.
Each year we hold our 'Creative Day' where the children can experience different activities based around a set theme.

Creative Day - Eco Warriors
The children enjoyed another successful Creative Day working in mixed age groups to complete a range of activities from recycled art, learning dances based on endangered animals, making Bees Wax Sandwich Wraps to making up their own eco jingles.
Our Creative Day was a 'roaring' success with our Circus/Greatest Showman theme. The children enjoyed working in mixed groups to make lions, clowns, elephants, trapeze artists and Big Tops. They were also able to create movements to mimic animals and clowns during dance sessions, paint to music and even learnt how to play 'A Million Dreams' on the chime bars!
