At Langwathby School, we strive to embed the skills necessary for children to become resilient and rounded members of the community. We aim to allow the children to take risks, try new things and learn that it’s ok to not to get things right all the time, but to learn to try again and not give up. We hope by giving children the time and skills to develop their understanding, children will leave Langwathby school responsible citizens of the future.
We develop children’s understanding of growing up, friendships, bullying and behaviour. PSHE and Well Being is taught throughout the school in various ways, including direct lessons focusing on a key aspect and through daily routines and interactions. From Nursery to year 6, classrooms value each child’s unique qualities and aim to develop and nurture their needs, in a caring, respectful manner.
Children learn about staying safe and equality during Fair Trade week and Kids safe. We offer nurture and mindfulness groups, alongside our new reflection space.
At Langwathby School we aim to give children a positive growth mindset, enabling them the skills to become resilient, life long learners. Allowing children the chance to explore and learn, playing with what they know but also having the confidence to try new things and ‘have a go’. We want to equip the children with the skills needed to persist with an activity when challenging occur, bounce back after difficulties and show a belief that more effort or a different approach will pay off. There’s no such word as cant, just not yet!
We hope children will be proud of how they accomplished something- not just the end result and enjoy meeting challenging for their own sake rather than external reward or praise.
