Music

At Langwathby C of E Primary School will use the Charanga Musical School Scheme to provide teachers with week-by-week lessons for each class. This scheme is ideal for specialist and non-specialist teachers and provides lesson plans, assessment, clear progression, and engaging and exciting whiteboard resources for every lesson.

We want our Music curriculum to be inspiring and ambitious and so in Sept 2022 we moved from the original scheme to the English Model Music Curriculum (MMC).  An overview can be seen below.

In recognition of the more challenging content and expectation within this new curriculum some of our pupils are working outside of their chronological age, this is allowing our learners to build on firm foundations and to avoid gaps in their skills and knowledge (particularly in regard to their understanding and recall of different keys and music notation). We anticipate all learners working with their year groups by 24-25.

For further detail please read the document below which details the knowledge, skills and learning progression for the Primary phase.

Two of our school councillors had a marvellous time at Sunbeams Music Therapy Centre near Penrith this week.  Mrs Newman accompanied the children to the Centre where they explored the outside musical garden, ate lunch together with councillors from four other local schools, and took part in a School Council of North Eden (SCoNE) meeting.  Annie Mawson, the founder of the charity, welcomed the children and, after their meeting, the children enjoyed a performance from a violin and piano duo in the wonderful wooden performance hall with and played in the sensory room.  A Year 6 child who attended said it had been the best day of his school life!
